Extractions

Oshawa Dental House provides safe dental extractions and wisdom tooth removal!

Dr. Danis’ gentle yet efficient approach to oral surgery and tooth extractions is one that puts your comfort first. While we always recommend preserving teeth when possible, that’s not always an option. Therapeutic, simple, and surgical tooth removal may be an integral part of your long-term oral health needs. If that’s the case, Dr. Danis will work with you to plan appropriate dental extractions to promote the best overall health condition for your smile.

“Should I Have My Tooth Removed?”

Preserving your natural teeth is our top priority. As the standard of care, anatomical teeth are preferably repaired so long as they are structurally sound. For instance, something conservative like a filling or a full-coverage crown can protect a damaged tooth for several more years.

Unfortunately, not all teeth can be repaired. If a tooth is damaged beyond the point of restoration, removing it is best. We may recommend a dental extraction if your tooth is affected by:

  • Advanced decay
  • Severe fractures
  • Chronic pain
  • Late-stage gum disease
  • Traumatic injuries

After your tooth has been removed, it’s best to replace it in a timely manner. Otherwise, the excess space that is created can lead to overall tooth movement and misalignment throughout your mouth. Dr. Danis offers a variety of restorations ranging from dental implants to bridges, to fit your unique preferences.

Wisdom Tooth Removal (Oshawa)

Wisdom teeth are at a higher risk of infection and complications, simply because of their location in the mouth. If there isn’t enough room for them to erupt properly or they become embedded against a neighboring tooth, it can lead to issues such as:

  • Tooth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Crowding
  • Pain and swelling
  • Cysts
  • Bone damage

If a wisdom tooth is beginning to develop an infection or appears to be a risk to neighboring healthy teeth, we recommend proactive removal before complications arise. Dr. Danis will use a special full-mouth X-ray to assess the size, placement, and current condition of wisdom teeth, as they are not visible on traditional X-rays used during your routine exam.

Thanks to his advanced oral surgery training within the Royal Military College, Dr. Danis can perform a full set of four wisdom teeth extractions in less time than it takes for your typical checkup appointment. In most cases, the entire procedure is completed in about 40 minutes.

Ensuring Your Comfort

Dr. Danis provides comfortable gas sedation to help our patients relax during procedures such as dental extractions and wisdom tooth removal. If you feel anxious about having a tooth removed, this analgesic — paired with an effective numbing medication — is an effective way to ensure the most pleasant experience. In many cases, extracting your tooth is the first step toward recovery and pain relief.
