If it’s already well past your child’s first birthday, we can still work with your family to help get things back on track. Just like adults, we highly recommend scheduling checkups every six months to monitor your child’s oral development and promote healthy teeth for life.

Preventive Checkups and Exams

During your child’s visit, we’ll gently clean their teeth, assess their bite development, and screen for concerns like growth irregularities, tongue thrusting, and finger sucking. Dr. Danis may also order a few X-rays to further assess tooth development and screen for early signs of decay.

Each visit is modified to your child’s age and comfort level. Some children are happy to jump right in, while others may be a bit more hesitant to have someone look in your mouth. Ultimately we want these early visits to be relaxing enough that your child sees trips to our Oshawa dentist’s office as something enjoyable, rather than intimidating. 
 
We’ll provide your family with the resources necessary to promote good oral habits and dietary choices that encourage healthy tooth development for the years ahead. Early and routine screenings mean that it’s possible to intercept concerns while they’re smaller and simpler to correct, further ensuring a comfortable experience for your child.

Sealants and Fluoride

To reduce your child’s risk of tooth decay, we’ll place a fluoride treatment on their teeth after every cleaning. When permanent (adult) molars erupt, protective sealants can be placed on the chewing surfaces to make those deep grooves easier to clean. Sealants are non-invasive and only take a few minutes to apply to each tooth.

Keeping Your Child Comfortable

Our upbeat team makes visiting the dentist something that’s enjoyable as possible. Even if your child requires treatment — such as a small filling or other procedure — we can take additional steps to ensure that they’re comfortable. Most basic treatments can be completed with nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) to help your little one feel relaxed or even sleepy throughout the duration of their appointment. Even though they’re fully alert, there’s a good chance they won’t notice what’s going on around them.
